John Calvin Stevens, who was Maine's foremost architect at the turn of the 20th century, designed this Colonial Revival home for Maine's 45th governor, John Freemont Hill (1855-1912) in 1902. This stately building was used as the governor's home until his daughter and grandchildren gave it to Oblate Fathers for a retreat home in 1949.
